Land drainage issues on a housing estate were causing issues for residents in Gilfach Goch, South Wales. Investigations were carried out to establish the source of the problem, which was found to be a 40 linear metre runoff stream situated between a busy road and the housing estate. The stream was heavily overgrown and blocked with debris and vegetation at points, compromising ground stability.
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council commissoned Hammond ECS to carry out the works for this project; clearing the vegetation, formalising the channel and lining it with Concrete Canvas®.
CC was specified over traditional alternatives such as pre-cast concrete and alternative slabbed solutions due to the varying channel profile and restrictions on site including a varying tree and fence line.
CC8™ was installed at a peak rate of over 100m² per hour in temperatures reaching around 25°C.
This channel lining project for Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC was a success - CC provided a rapidly installed solution, controlling water flow and eliminating drainage issues for residents.
