PRESS RELEASE
Concrete Canvas Asserts Japanese Patent Covering 2nd Generation Technology
20 MARCH 2026
A major Japanese distributor has ceased supplying an imported Geosynthetic Composite Cementitious Mat (GCCM) product into Japan, following an exchange of correspondence between Concrete Canvas Ltd.’s Japanese legal representatives and the lawyers acting for the Japanese distributor.
Concrete Canvas’ Japanese legal representatives had asserted on its behalf that the imported GCCM product infringes Japanese Patent No. 5736024, held by Concrete Canvas Ltd. The Japanese distributor did not admit any infringement of Japanese Patent No. 5736024.
Japanese patent No. 5736024 forms part of an extensive patent family covering Concrete Canvas’ 2nd-generation GCCM technology. This patent family spans multiple jurisdictions including but not limited to major territories such as Australia, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Greece, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, the UK, and the USA, and protects, amongst other things, the company’s proprietary hydration control technology, designed to regulate the water-to-cement ratio during hydration to within a certain range.
Concrete Canvas will seek robustly to enforce its intellectual property rights where they are being infringed by a manufacturer, distributor or otherwise. Such enforcement will occur at times and in jurisdictions where Concrete Canvas can best accomplish its commercial objectives. Patents exist to protect and encourage investment in innovation. It is in all of our interests to respect the law, including patent law.
