CCT1® Solar Cable Protection in Nasushiobara City
Project Overview
In February 2023, Concrete Canvas® GCCM* (CC) was used to provide erosion and theft protection to newly installed solar panel cables in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi, Japan.
In recent times, increased prices in scrap metals such as copper has caused an increase in theft of cable. To deter thieves from stealing cables from a newly installed solar farm in Nasushiobara City, the site owners looked at a number of solutions to protect the cables.
Solution
One solution suggested was to use poured concrete. However, due to the close proximity of the solar panels, this would have made it difficult to get the required equipment in to install. Another issue was that any repair works to the cables would have required the poured concrete to be removed and then re-installed – creating unnecessary costs. CCT1® was chosen as the preferred solution due to the material being cost effective, easy and rapid to install – with very little need for specialist labour or equipment.
Design & Installation
- Cables were installed prior to work commencing
- Crushed stone used to cover cables
- Anchor trenches excavated
- CCT1® Batched Rolls specified
- Transverse layup
- Screwed joints
- Edges secured within anchor trenches using crushed stone
- Hydrated using a water bowser and hose
Summary
The client was extremely pleased with the speed and ease in which the material was installed, with 4 labourers taking 2 days to install 1,140m² of CCT1®.
