Lagoon Lining | Kazakhstan
CCX-M® used to line fish ponds preventing erosion and water seepage
Background
In September 2023, CCX-MAT® GCCM* (CCX-M®) was used to line a newly constructed fish pond in the mountainous area of the Turkestan region, Kazakhstan. The clients chose the area in which the ponds were to be constructed due to the nearby rivers flow rates and water quality being the most optimal conditions for the fish breeding.
The Kazakh government has adopted an aquaculture development programme, aiming to boost domestic fish production under which, the country has seen an active growth in the construction of fish farming since 2021. One of such fisheries construction projects for artificial breeding of trout was carried out in the Turkestan region
Solution
Fishponds require some essential facilities which are used for breeding valuable fish species. One of such facilities is a direct-flow system consisting of ponds equipped with inlet and outflow pipe nozzles, which needed to be lined to prevent erosion and reduce water losses. Traditional poured concrete was considered for the project. However, due to the scale and time restraints, a fast and effective solution was needed. CCX-M® was specified as the ideal choice due to the speed and ease of install.
Design & Installation
- Ponds were excavated prior to install
- CCX-M® Bulk Rolls specified
- Transverse layup
- Thermal bond joints
- Leading edges secured using j-pegs within anchor trenches
- Hydrated using water and hose
Conclusion
The whole project took 4 days to complete, with 1,615m² of CCX-M® installed by a team of 6 installing between 400- 450m2 per/one shift.
Both the client and the contractor were extremely pleased with the speed and ease of installation of CCX-M®. The project was completed within the schedule and fully ensured the functioning of the facility according to the project specification. The customer plans to expand the fish farm and to specify the CCX-M® to the remainder of the projec
