25,500m² of CC5® installed as a protective liner to clay bunds
Project Overview
In November 2012, Concrete Canvas® GCCM (CC) was used to line refurbished secondary containment bunds at a Marine Terminal Facility in the UK. The bunds surrounded a series of tanks storing hydrocarbons as part of the larger onshore facility.
Solution
The bunds were being upgraded with a containment geomembrane and soil filled geocell fire protection layer. To prevent vegetation growth and therefore reduce continued maintenance to trim vegetation and prevent a fire risk, it was decided to line the bunds with a hard armour facing. CC5® was specified as a solution to prevent vegetation growth and maintain volume capacity due to its 5mm thickness.

- Staggered delivery to minimise on-site storage and provide flexibility to programme of works
- Bunds de-vegetated and graded into uniform profile
- Transverse layup
- Screwed and sealed overlap joints
- Perimeter edges secured in anchor trenches
- Hydrated using mains water supply
Summary
In total 22,500m2 of CC5® was installed in July 2013. Since then, maintenance to control vegetation has not been required.
